Anger is one of several emotions that make up the true character and personal strength of a person. The way that you control and deal with your anger helps determine how the world will respond to you.
Uncontrolled anger is dangerous and terrifying and usually leads to more anger. The other anger is controlled anger, and it is used to help solve problems. In truth, if it were not for anger there would be many times that we do not even know that something is wrong and needs fixing.
The way you can tell if your anger is controlled is by watching the way you act and feel when you become angry. If you are able to carefully choose the words you say when angry, you can consider that things are controlled.
However, if when mad you only know what you had said when you had finished saying it then you should know that you need to learn to control your anger before you get into even more trouble.
There are many ways that anger is controlled. If you are going to control your anger you should know that there are a lot of tools available to help you do this. What you need to do is sort them out and find the methods that you are able to use best.
The first two things you want to do when controlling your anger is first, understand when you are starting to get angry. The second thing you need to be able to do is quickly gather up your willpower when you do start to get mad and do something that calms you instead of letting your anger swell into rage.
Excuse me, hold on a minute, one second, be right back, you can use one of these, or a similar phrase to rescue yourself from a potentially hostile situation. You only need to say it, walk away, and stay away until your anger has cooled off.
Walking away is like training wheels on a bicycle. You will only need to use this method until you get better at managing your anger. Once your anger management skills are improved you will be able to skip the walking away step and use another skill in its place.
Until then however, walking away and slowly counting to ten, twenty, or one hundred as the need may be, until you are calm will help you to keep the nasty effects from anger away.
Until you are controlling your anger better, make sure that you are not underestimating the power of this act to help. It is simple, but it has helped others and it will help you too.
When you start to think about long term solutions, let your starting place be taking the time everyday to relax yourself. Coming out of your anger problems will be more rapid if you take the time to treat yourself to time alone thinking about the things that satisfy you. Whether you believe it or not, this will take a lot of the bite out of your anger.
